Events and exibitions in PisaGiugno Pisano
In June, every year, special events are organised all the month: "La Luminara di San Ranieri", "Il Palio di San Ranieri", "La Regata delle Antiche Repubbliche Marinare" and "Il Gioco del Ponte" are some examples. Luminara di San RanieriSince 1668, each year on 16th June Pisa scenary is magically transformed thanks to the thousands of candles hanging on the facades of the every building along Arno riversides. This Festival is to celebrate Pisa Saint Patron San Ranieri. Also the Leaning Tower and the ancient walls surrounding the historical centre are enlightened during the night of San Ranieri. Il Gioco del PonteThis is a very ancient exibition coming from Middle Age and involving all the city.As the city is cut by the River in two halves, this game represents a sort of competition between the two halves, one called Mezzogiorno and the other called Tramontana. The first part of this game consists in a parade of all the participants dressed with medieval clothes. The second part is the competition of the two groups disputed over the main bridge, Ponte di Mezzo. The aim is to conquer part of the bridge pushing the opposite group off the bridge. La Regata delle Antiche Repubbliche MarinareFrom 1956 the four Maritime Republics of Amalfi, Genova, Pisa and Venezia used to compete in the Mediterranean Sea. This tradition is simbolically repeated each year in one of the cities above mentioned and in Pisa particularly, a historical manifestation anticipates the match. It is a corteo celebrating the history of Kinzika De Sismondi, a pisan heroine who rescued Pisa from the invasion of the Saracen Pirates. |
